INDICATIONS : LOREXIL M is a broad spectrum antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections such as :
Infections of the upper and lower airways : For example, ear, nose and throat, otitis media , sinusitis, pharyngitis , acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, lobar pneumonia and bronchopneumonia.
Gastrointestinal infections : For example , typhoid and paratyphoid .
Genitourinary infections: For example ; cystitis, urethritis , pyelonephritis, bacteriuria in pregnancy , septic abortion , puerperal septicemia.
Infections of skin and soft tissues.
Biliary tract infections .
Bone infections .
Pelvic infections .
Gonorrhea ( penicillinase- producing strains ) .
Dental abscesses ( complement of surgical treatment ) .
Infections such as septicemia , endocarditis and meningitis caused by susceptible organisms should be treated initially with high -dose therapy administered parenterally and, where appropriate, in combination with another antibiotic.
Prophylaxis of endocarditis : The formulation LOREXIL M ® can be used in the prevention of bacteremia associated with surgical procedures such as dental extractions in patients at risk of developing endocarditis.
Generally , strains of the following microorganisms are usually sensitive to the bactericidal action of LOREXIL M ® in vitro :
Aerobes : Enterococcus faecalis , Streptococcus pneumoniae , Streptococcus pyogenes , Streptococcus viridans , Staphylococcus aureus sensitive to penicillin , Corynebacterium species , Bacillus anthracis , Listeria monocytogenes.
Anaerobes Clostridium species .
Aerobic : Haemophilus influenzae , Escherichia coli , Proteus mirabilis , Salmonella species , Shigella species , Bordetella pertussis , Brucella species , Neisseria gonorrhoeae , Neisseria meningitidis , Pasteurella tank , Vibrio cholerae , Helicobacter pylori .
Amoxicillin is susceptible to degradation caused
by beta- lactamase , so that the spectrum of activity of the LOREXIL M ® formulation does not include microorganisms that produce these enzymes , including resistant staphylococci and all strains of Pseudomonas, Klebsiella and Enterobacter .
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Oral .
Adults ( including elderly patients ) :
Standard dose: 250 mg administered three times per day , increasing to 500 mg tid for more severe infections.
Therapy with high doses ( maximum oral dose of 6 g daily, administered in divided doses is recommended) : a dose of 3 g is recommended twice daily in appropriate cases to severe or recurrent purulent infections of the respiratory tract.
