THIS IS A BRAND MEDICATION

INDICATIONS:

Prophylaxis: Prevention of postoperative infections caused by anaerobic bacteria, especially those associated with colon surgery, gastrointestinal and gynecological.

Treatment of the following infections: Infections anaerobic, such as:

Intraperitoneal infections: peritonitis, abscesses.

Gynaecological infections: endometritis, endomyometritis, tubo-ovarian abscess

Bacterial sepsis.

Post-surgical infection of the wound.

Skin and soft tissue.

Infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract: pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess.

Nonspecific vaginitis.

Acute ulcerative gingivitis.

Urogenital trichomoniasis in both men as in women.

Mixed infections by Trichomonas and Candida (use of vaginal tablets containing 150 mg and tioconazole tinidazole 100 mg).

Giardiasis.

Intestinal amebiasis.

Hepatic amoebiasis.


CONTRAINDICATIONS: The use of tinidazole is contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy, and breastfeeding women (see Restrictions on use during pregnancy and lactation), in patients with organic neurological disorders and in patients with known hypersensitivity to tinidazole, other derivatives 5 -nitroimidazoles, or any component of this product. Like other drugs of similar structure, tinidazole is contraindicated in patients with bleeding disorders or present history of the same, although there have been no persistent hematologic abnormalities or clinical studies or animal.


DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Oral.

Prophylaxis

Prevention of postoperative infections:

Adults: A single dose of 2 g, approximately 12 hours before surgery.

Children under 12 years: There are no data available to recommend dosage for children under 12 years in the prophylaxis of anaerobic infections.

Treatment:

Anaerobic infections:

Adults: An initial dose of 2 g the first day followed by 1 g daily given as a single dose or 500 mg twice a day.

Generally, a treatment of 5-6 days will be adequate, but the clinical trial should be used to determine the duration of therapy, particularly where it may be difficult to eradicate the infection from certain sites.

It is recommended frequent clinical observation studies and routine laboratory, if deemed necessary to continue therapy for more than 7 days.

Children under 12 years: There are no data available to recommend dosage for children under 12 years in the treatment of anaerobic infections.

Nonspecific vaginitis:

Adults: The nonspecific vaginitis has been successfully treated with a single oral dose of 2 g. Higher cure rates have been obtained with doses of 2 g daily for two consecutive days (4 g).

Acute ulcerative gingivitis:

Adults: A single oral dose of 2 g.

Urogenital trichomoniasis: When you confirm an infestation by Trichomonas vaginalis, we recommend simultaneous treatment of the consort.

Adults: A single oral dose of 2 g.

Oral dosage regimens can be supplemented in women, by the insertion of a vaginal tablet of tinidazole twice daily for 7 days.

Vaginal trichomoniasis has been successfully treated by insertion of a vaginal tablet of tinidazole twice daily for 7 days. However, superior results are obtained when combined oral and intravaginal treatment, which is preferred intravaginal treatment alone.

Children: 50 to 75 mg / kg, administered in one dose.

It may be necessary in some cases, repeat this dose in a single occasion.

Mixed vaginal infections with Trichomonas vaginalis and Candida albicans: Use the recommended oral dose of tinidazole for trichomoniasis urogenital, and a tablet of tinidazole + tioconazole applied twice daily for 7 to 14 days.

Mixed vaginal infections have been treated successfully with the application of tinidazole vaginal tablets + tioconazole twice daily for 7 to 14 days.

However, superior results are obtained when combined oral and intravaginal treatment, which is preferred intravaginal treatment only.

Giardiasis:

Adults: A single oral dose of 2 g.

Children: 50 to 75 mg / kg, administered in one dose. It may be necessary in some cases, repeat this dose in a single occasion.

Intestinal amebiasis:

Adults: A single oral dose of 2 g for 2 to 3 days.

On those occasions where a once-daily treatment for three days was not effective, it may extend to six days.

Children: 50 to 60 mg / kg, administered once daily for three consecutive days.

Hepatic Amebiasis: For amebic liver involvement may be required aspiration of pus plus tinidazole therapy.

Adults: The total dose varies from 4.5 to 12 g depending on the virulence of Entamoeba histolytica.

Treatment should be initiated with 1.5 to 2 g orally as single daily dose for three days.

In occasional cases in which the three day treatment is ineffective, therapy may be continued until a total of six days.

Children: 50 to 60 mg / kg once daily on five consecutive days.

Use in renal impairment is not usually require dose adjustments in patients with renal failure. However, due to tinidazole is easily removed by hemodialysis, patients may require additional doses of tinidazole to compensate.

It is recommended that oral tinidazole be taken during or after a meal.
