THERAPEUTIC INDICATIONS:

Oral hypoglycemic: LUDITEC ® (glipizide) is indicated for the treatment for diabetes mellitus type 2 in patients with or without overweight, who can not be controlled with diet and exercise as well as diabetic patients with secondary failure to oral hypoglycemic agents and other are biguanides, acarbose, glitazones and other sulfonylureas.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Glipizide is contraindicated during pregnancy, type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma, severe thyroid dysfunction, renal failure and severe liver infection or febrile reactions, gangrene, severe trauma, major surgery procedures in patients with hypersensitivity to derivatives sulfonylurea or allergy to sulfa. Glipizide is also contraindicated in children.

CAUTIONS: In stressful situations, surgery or infections, you should replace glipizide, insulin temporarily.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Oral.

In general, glipizide should be given approximately 30 minutes before a meal to achieve a greater reduction of postprandial hyperglycemia.

Starting dose: The recommended starting dose is 5 mg given before meals. In elderly patients or those with liver disease may start with 2.5 mg.

Dosage adjustments should ordinarily be in increments of 2.5-5 mg, as determined by the response of blood glucose. At least several days should elapse between steps of increasingthe dose. If the answer to a single dose is not satisfactory, dividing that dose may proveeffective. The doses above 15 mg should ordinarily be divided and given before mealsadequate caloric content. The maximum recommended daily dose is 40 mg.

Maintenance Dose: The maintenance dose is usually 10-15 mg once a day. In elderly patients, debilitated or malnourished patients and patients with renal or hepatic dysfunction, the initial dose and maintenance should be retained to avoid hypoglycemic reactions.
